Project Description

The city of Cedar Rapids had been hoping to make sidewalks along its popular 3rd Street livelier, but narrow sidewalks and not enough space had posed a problem in the past. Bison Pop-Up Parks were just the solution! The removable platforms are constructed using Bison Versadjust Pedestals, Powder-Coated Aluminum Charcoal Planter Cubes, and 2x2 Smooth 8-Plank Ipê Wood Tiles, and measuring 20 x 8 feet, they each fit inside a parallel parking spot.

Each Pop-Up Park has six Planter Cubes spaced around the platform with cable rail fencing around the perimeter to separate pedestrians from the traffic. The removable platforms can be easily assembled during warm summer months when outdoor dining and activities are at their peak and disassembled in the winter and stored. The modular Pop-Up Park Deck System has low installation and maintenance costs, increases the interest and visibility of local businesses, and creates space for patrons to enjoy the weather and their purchases.
